Followers of the Drum Living History

"To pack up her tatters
and follow the drum."

The lives of British Army wives and followers during the Napoleonic Wars.

About Followers of the Drum

We’re a UK-based living history group that brings to life the stories of the women, children, and camp followers who travelled with the British Army during the Napoleonic Wars.

At events across the UK and beyond, you’ll find us sharing what life was really like on campaign—cooking half-rations over open fires, washing and mending clothes, and showing the resilience of the families who marched alongside the soldiers.

It’s a chance to experience history up close—not just through battles and uniforms, but through the lives of the wives, children, and camp followers who “…pack[ed] up her tatters and follow[ed] the drum.”

Eager to join us?

We’re always open to welcoming new members—but Followers of the Drum is a group for serious reenactors who share our commitment to authenticity and research.

If you’re dedicated to portraying Napoleonic army followers with accuracy and enthusiasm, we’d love to hear from you.
